COLBERT - The Leopards tuned up Monday for their regional playoff run with a 10-5 victory over another playoff-bound opponent in the Caney Cougars.
Colbert baseball coach Lance Britt used his entire pitching staff in the game to get them some good innings. The Leopards’ defense was solid except for “one bad inning with some miscues, but nothing we can’t fix,” he said.
Dylan Jones had a pair of hits, Payton Whitehead hit well and Britt said Chris “Bubba” Roberts “hit the ball hard every time he was up.”
“After today I feel like we’re ready,” Britt said. “There are four good teams over there, and it will be as tough as any regional in the state. We’ll be more concerned with how we play rather than who we play.”
That “who” will be the Rattan Rams at 2 p.m. Thursday in Silo. This is a different time than on the OSSAA website due to possible bad weather. Silo and Calera are also in the bracket, guaranteeing a Bryan County team will make it to the state tournament.
Caney will take on Boswell in the Class B regionals at 4 p.m. Friday in Red Oak.
The other local team in the regionals, Tushka, will face Latta at 2 p.m. Friday in Byng. The host Pirates are the top-ranked team in Class A baseball and a heavy favorite to win it all.
