WEWOKA - Caddo returns to eight-man football next season as part of a 10-team district in Class B.
That may be little comfort after a 40-0 loss to the Wewoka Tigers (4-2, 2-1) on Friday as their final (for now) 11-man season starts to gear down.
The Tigers scored on their first possession and used a 50-yard punt return to set up another score for a 13-0 lead after one quarter.
The teams traded interceptions (with Wewoka grabbing four in the game) and Caddo recovered a Tiger fumble in the second quarter.
Despite good yardage from Bruins Tanner Grace on rushing and returns and impressive numbers for QB Wyatt Wright, Wewoka took a 19-0 lead into the locker room.
In the third, Caddo put togetehr a nice drive before that fourth INT set up a 23-yard touchdown for the Tigers. A two-point conversion put Wewoka on top 27-0 after three. The Tigers scored 13 more in the fourth quarter.
Caddo (3-3, 1-2 in district) hosts Wynnewood (5-1, 2-0) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in a critical showdown with playoff implications for both teams. The Bruins wrap up 2013 football with a trip to Maysville (1-5, 0-2) on Oct. 25 and hosting Elmore City-Pernell (3-3, 2-1) on Nov. 1.
After that - unless they make this year’s playoffs - Caddo is back to District 4 in Class B eight-man football next fall.
OSSAA anounced the football districts for 2014 and 2015 last week. Caddo’s district will include Canadian, Arkoma, Dewar, Gans, Haileyville, Keota, Porum, Weleetka and Wetumka.
