Colbert Lady Leopards coaching shake up

Stunning news from Colbert schools yesterday when Lady Leopards head coach Chris Gillespie resigned after learning that school officials relieved Krista Potter, daughter of Chris Gillespie, from her coaching duties as the girls junior varsity coach.

Potter will remain on the faculty as counselor and elementary school coach.

This is horrible news for the Lady Leopards, Gillespie coach the girls to the 2013 Class 2A Regional Championship and state playoff run last year. They fell short, but the Lady Leopards were looking at another run at state title this year.

Now just a few weeks before the season begins, Colbert is on the hunt for two new coaches.

KTEN reported that Gillespie said there was no warning and he felt like, “She deserved an explanation as to why they were taking her out after being here for two years and having invested so much in these girls.”

The season will open for the Lady Leopards November 12th at Achille Eagles.

The Durant Daliy Democrat was not able to contact school officials about this coaching shake up on Wednesday due to fall break. But KTEN reported that school officials said, “it’s a personnel issue that can’t be discussed.”
