Choctaw Recycling Center honored America Recycles Day by hosting a free shredding day Saturday. Shredding services were provided by Mobile Shred It.

Friday was officially America Recycles Day but Choctaw Recycling Center’s Tracy Horst said they waited until Saturday to give more opportunity for people to come out and shred their documents.

The center asked Mobile Shred It, A Dallas-based company, to provide free shredding services in honor of America Recycles Day.

The event began at 9 a.m. and by noon 12,000 pounds of paper had been shredded. All documents shredded on Saturday were recycled at the Choctaw Recycling center.

Mobile Shred It owner Cylena Morris-Smith said she wanted to offer free document destruction not only to help the environment through recycling but also to help the community protect against identity theft by shredding valuable information securely.
