The 2014 Dancing with the Stars of Durant was held Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Choctaw Casino And Resort.
The evening consisted of dinner and dance performances by six teams. Each team had a local celebrity and their partner.
Team one was Dr. Eric Lee and Carolyn Martens. Lee is a physician at the Family Health Center of Southern Oklahoma in Tishomingo. Martens is a Durant native with dancing experience from the age of five.
Team two was Boys and Girls Club President Kari Walker and partner Johnathan O’Brien. Walker works for First United Bank and Trust and is also co-chair for the local March of Dimes along with volunteering in other organizations.
O’Brien is a recent Southeastern Oklahoma State University graduate with a degree in safety and a minor in dance.
Team Three was State Representative Dustin Roberts and partner Jennifer Rudolf. Roberts was raised in Durant and is a U.S. Navy veteran.
Roberts is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and volunteers with organizations such a Relay for Life and March of Dimes.
Rudolf is an SE graduate currently employed by REI of Oklahoma. Neither partner had significant dance experience.
Team four was KXII Good Day on Fox morning meteorologist Wava Denito and partner BJ Keeling. Denito has been with KXII since May 2013 and said she has some dance background referring to childhood lessons.
Keeling is an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper living in Durant. He has been with OHP since 2005 and moved to Durant five years ago.
Team five was Choctaw Nation’s IT Systems Analyst Eric Pyle and partner Carissa Mason. Pyle has been with the Choctaw Tribe for nine years and resides in Calera.
Mason is Mrs. Oklahoma 2011 who used her reign to promote modesty and morality in young women.
The last team of the night was KTEN Today and KTEN Midday Assistant News Director Lisanne Anderson and Partner Jody House.
Anderson holds awards from the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters and the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters.
House also served as the main MC and auctioneer for the evening’s events and has participated in previous Dancing with the Stars events.
Judges consisted of former Dancing with the Stars participant Jay Questa, Fox Texoma morning news anchor Heather Sahr and District Attorney Emily Redman.
Midway through performances, a live auction took place raising several thousands of dollars with items ranging from spa treatments to exclusive sporting tickets.
The audience also enjoyed performances by the SE Sparks team and Cast of Southeastern’s Production of “Chicago.”
Winners of the evening’s “People’s Choice Award” went to Denito and Keeling. Roberts and Rudolf won both “Judge’s Choice” and “Overall Fundraiser.”
All proceeds went to the Durant Main Street Program.
