Area high school playoffs: What’s at stake

For most local basketball teams, this weekend will be the end of the line for the 2014 season. But for a chosen few, it will be a stepping stone to the next level - in some cases, heading to State.

Here’s a run-down of which teams are in the hunt and what’s at stake:

CLASS 5A BOYS Regionals

Durant (10-10) vs. Edison Prep (4-8) - 6:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial High in Tulsa. Winner faces No. 2 Memorial on Saturday with an automatic bid to the next round; loser goes home.

CLASS 5A GIRLS Regionals

Durant (3-17) vs. Deer Creek (18-5) - 8 p.m. Thursday in Edmond. No. 3 Deer Creek is a heavy favorite; winner survives to Saturday and the loser goes home.

CLASS 3A BOYS Regionals

Hugo (11-9) at Kingston (17-7) 8 p.m. Thursday - Winner plays for the regional championship at 8 p.m. Saturday in Kingston; loser moves to a must-win game on Friday night, also in Kingston.

CLASS 3A GIRLS Regionals

Valliant (8-14) at Kingston (7-16) - 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Winner will play in a semifinal game on Friday; loser is eliminated from the playoffs.

CLASS 2A BOYS Regionals

Silo (20-6) vs. Cordell (11-13) - 8 p.m. Thursday at Amber-Pocasset. Winner faces Haworth or Colbert on Saturday in Purcell for the regional crown; loser is pushed into a must-win game on Friday versus either Calera or Wright City.

Haworth (23-3) at Colbert (9-11) - 8 p.m. Thursday. Winner plays Saturday against Silo or Cordell in Purcell; loser plays Friday in Purcell against Dibble or Amber-Pocasset.

Tushka (23-3) vs. Christian Heritage (20-2) - 8 p.m. Thursday in Rush Springs. Winner plays Saturday night in Latta for the regional title; loser will play on Friday afternoon.

Calera (16-8) vs. Wright City (7-16) - 3 p.m. Thursday in Colbert. This is a must-win game in the consolation bracket. Winner plays Friday in Purcell against the loser between Silo and Cordell.

CLASS 2A GIRLS Regionals

Calera (17-6) vs. Wright City (20-4) - 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Colbert. Winner plays in a regional title game Saturday in Purcell; loser faces aither Silo or Dibble on Friday.

Tushka (10-14) at Rush Springs (20-3) - 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Winner plays Saturday in Latta; loser faces an elimination game on Friday night.

Silo vs. Dibble - 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Amber-Pocasset. Winner survives to a Friday contest in Purcell.

Haworth at Colbert - 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Winner plays on Friday in Purcell; loser eliminated.


Boswell (18-7) vs Stuart (18-5) - 3 p.m. Thursday at Bloomer Sullivan Arena in Durant. Winner plays either Arkoma or Roff on Friday for a chance at the Area finals.

CLASS A GIRLS Area Championship

Caddo (22-1) vs. Kiowa (23-3) - 6:30 p.m. Friday at Bloomer Sullivan Arena in Durant. Winner has automatic bid to state tournament, while the loser must play at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at SE for one last shot at the “state eight.”


Bennington (18-7) vs. Lookeba-Sickles (21-4) - 3 p.m. Thursday in Ada. Winner plays Okarche or Moyers on Friday; loser goes home.


Caney (23-3) vs. Pittsburg (26-6) - 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Ada. Winner plays Friday afternoon in Ada; loser is done for the year.
