Lady Lions fall in regional playoffs

EDMOND - The Durant Lady Lions traveled to Edmond, Ok. on Thursday night for regional play. The Lady Lions faced-off against Deer Creek in the first round and fell 61-18.

Turnovers plagued the Lady Lions from tip-off. Deer Creeks defense kept the Lady Lions offenses out of rhythm all night.

With full-court pressure and half-court press, Deer Creek created turnovers that turned into fast-break points and doom the Lady Lions.

Alexa Richards and Makayla Patton both had five points, Rheagan Jones pitched in four points and Ciera Taylor had two points.

Deer Creek begun the game with a bang as they rolled out a 17-2 and had a comfy 19-7 lead headed into the second period.

Durant had problems with Deer Creek’s defense in the second period and only scored four points. The Lady Lions passing wasn’t crisp as they committed five turnovers as Deer Creek went up 34-11 at the half.

The turnover bug hit the Lady Lions hard in the third period. Deer Creek scored eight fast-break points on four of Durant turnovers. The Lady Lions had a total of eight turnovers in the period and only scored two points. Dree Creek led 53-13 headed into the final frame of the game.

Both teams filled the court with bench players in the fourth period as the Lady Lions season came to an end with a 61-18 loss.
