ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Southeastern got big matches out of the bottom half of its lineup and pulled off the upset of No. 40 Ouachita Baptist, 6-3, on Friday afternoon in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The win moves the team to 9-5 on the season overall and 1-0 in Great American Conference play, and will be back in action on Saturday afternoon against Harding at 1 p.m. in Searcy, Ark.
The Savage Storm jumped out to an early lead thanks to big doubles wins.
The duo of Alberto Blesa and Tiago Ferreira picked up an 8-1 win at number two doubles, which was followed by an 8-1 win by Nathan Nelmes and Billy Haugen at number three to leave SE with a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
That momentum carried over for Ferreira who turned in a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number four singles.
The Storm dropped number one doubles and at one and two singles, but a 7-5, 1-6, 10-9 win at number three singles by Petar Popovic would even the score at 3-3 before Ferreira’s win put SE up 4-3.
That extended to 5-3 when Martin Bedcarratz posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at number five to clinch the match and was followed by a 6-4, 6-1 victory at number six by Renato Joao to fashion the 6-3 final score.
