Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Ethan Fox and Lacey Kessler will open their chase for titles in their respective events when they begin competition at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., June 15-21.
Kessler will open the week with the first of her three qualifying runs in the breakaway roping slated for the 1 p.m. performance June 15.
Her second and third run will be June 17 and 18.
Kessler qualified for the CNFR by finishing third in the Central Plains region on the year.
She picked up an event championship in the breakaway at the Southwestern Oklahoma State Rodeo, just a week after finishing third in the event at Southeastern’s home rodeo.
Ethan Fox continues a long line of Southeastern cowboys to advance in the team-roping event after winning the Central Region championship with partner Chase Boekhaus from Northwestern Oklahoma State.
The duo is ranked 16th in the nation in team roping coming into the CNFR.
Fox and Boekhaus will open their title chase June 16 during the 7 a.m. slack. The following runs will be June 17 and 18, with the June 17 run coming during slack and the June 18 run during the evening performance.
The duo made the short-go in six of the 10 rodeos on the season, winning twice and finishing in the top five all six times.
The championship round for the CNFR is slated for 7 p.m. June 21.
Southeastern’s last national champion at the CNFR came in 2009 when the team roping pair of Ryan Von Ahn and Trevor Connolly took home the title after finishing seventh the year before in the finals.
