Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OG&E) delivered several fans to Durant Wednesday for use by Bryan County residents.

The company gave fans to Bryan County United way and SODA for distribution throughout the county.

The company provided 1,000 electric fans to agencies serving low-income and elderly residents across its service area and approximately 50 fans were provided to Durant.

Agencies in 10 other cities also received fans to be distributed to those in need.

Each year, the fan donation program helps people who are otherwise vulnerable to the summer heat. OG&E partners with agencies that work directly with those in need to distribute these fans as summer temperatures rise.

The fans are distributed by the agencies based on individual agency criteria for serving elderly and low-income Oklahomans.

According to OG&E, air conditioners are still the best way to prevent heat-related illnesses but using a fan will help with the air circulation to keep you comfortable.

A fan allows you to adjust your thermostat by a few degrees to conserve energy and save money.
