The Friends of the NRA (501c3) are having their 13th annual banquet today at the Durant Elks Lodge (Highway 70 and Gates Avenue, behind Walmart). Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door, Gun Nutz (Mead) or on-line at The banquet will be catered by Glenn Grote with barbecue and all the sides.

A live auction will be performed by John Teel and there will be many silent auction items and gun raffles. This is a family friendly event, which gives respect to God, country and veterans.

The reason for the banquet is to raise money for the State of Oklahoma youth shooting sports through grants that are awarded once a year.

This year’s local recipients are: Durant FFA; Achille FFA; Colbert FFA; Calera FFA and Bryan County 4-H. This year $19,000 plus will help educate more than 675 students in Bryan county alone. The safety/proficiency of firearms and archery will be taught, along with practicing for local and state competitions. Jeremiah Adams, Durant FFA Teacher, said the Junior team won first in the Bryan County and SE District Sporting Clays and ranked sixth in the State. Team Members are, Clay Laughlin, Caden Orlando, Aaric Cryer and Austin Rapier.

The Senior team ranked fifth at SE District. Team Members are, Brayden Bentley, Noah McGinnis, Jeff Jones and Adi Hutchens.

Bryan County Friends of NRA gives a big thanks to many local sponsors who believe in this worthy cause and the public is invited to the event.
