The Oklahoma Association of REALTORS® (OAR) recognized OAR Life Member Martin VanMeter on his more than 15 years of dutiful service to the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission (OREC). In his role on the commission, VanMeter served as one of seven board members who grants real estate licenses, safeguards the public interest and investigates and sanctions licensed activities.
“With more than four decades under my belt working in the real estate community, it’s important to me that I’ve been able to give back to other members of my profession through serving the commission,” VanMeter said. “I’m certainly proud that I’ve been able to use my experience to help make decisions that have upheld high standards when it comes to the real estate licensing process.”
VanMeter, who started in real estate in 1972, is a broker manager with Coldwell Banker Van Meter Select in Durant. He served OREC for nearly 16 combined years, from 1998-2003 and again from 2004-2014. He was Oklahoma REALTOR® of the Year in 2009, three-time past president and director of the Texoma Board of Realtors and past president and current board member of the Durant Chamber of Commerce. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Rural Enterprises of Oklahoma, statewide economic development organization. During his free time, he participates in the Durant Main Street program and the Durant Elks Lodge.
VanMeter holds the Council of Real Estate Brokerage Managers (CRB) and Certified General Appraiser professional designations. He graduated from Oklahoma State University.
“Martin has set himself apart as a Realtor and a commissioner known for his experience and trustworthiness,” said Mary Terry, OAR president. “The real estate community has been fortunate that he’s been willing to be a true role model, sharing those qualities with other members of the profession, and we’re so appreciative of his service.”
VanMeter was recently presented with a plaque in honor of his service during an OAR Board of Directors semi-annual meeting in Oklahoma City. As an OAR Life Member, he joined the association more than 40 years ago and served as a state director and on numerous committees.
