by By Zach Maxwell Staff Reporter
A fire was reported Sunday inside the Bryan County Jail, with Durant firefighters dousing an unknown type of blaze using small hoses.
The call was made to emergency responders shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday. An employee at the jail said the staff was too busy to offer details of the firea approximately 8:45 p.m.
Durant Fire Department responded with three engines, and Bryan County Emergency Medical Services was also on scene. But before they could make entry into the jail, which had an audible fire alarm going off, law enforcement officers from six agencies converged onto the scene.
One of the first on the scene, Durant Police Department Officer Phelps, could be seen carrying a baton while rushing into the jail. Other officers arrived from Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, and Calera and Bokchito police departments.
Police were inside the jail for a short time before firefighters were allowed to roll a single hose into the facility. Water was used to extinguish an unknown type of fire for about 10 minutes before police and firefighters began to exit the jail.
