The Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma is participating in the National Pink Glove video contest and also preparing for the annual MCSO Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.


October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and MCSO is gearing up for their annual Breast Cancer Walk/Run that will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26.


In addition to raising funds for breast cancer awareness, MCSO is joining in on the Pink Glove Dance competition hosted by Medline Industries.Employees of MCSO participated in the videos that were filmed last week and hope their dancing abilities will help them in the fight against breast cancer.


To register for the event visit www.mymcso.com. Registration for the walk is $20 for those who register by Oct. 12. Late registrations after that date cost $25.


According to the Center of Disease Control (CDC), aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. It is also one of the leading causes of cancer death among women of all races and Hispanic origin populations.


In 2009 (the most recent year numbers are available):


211,731 women in the United States were diagnosed with breast cancer.*†


40,676 women in the United States died from breast cancer.*


*Incidence counts cover approximately 90% of the U.S. population; death counts cover approximately 100% of the U.S. population.
