The Boys and Girls Club of Durant held its first Crystal Ball since the club officially opened in February. The event honored sponsors and included a silent auction and fundraising activities as in previous years.

This year, the club was able to honor club members as well, giving out its first ever Youth of the Year award at the event.

Award winner Jonah Pollard described what it took to win the award.

“I went from the bottom to this,” said Pollard as he described the responsibilities he took on at the club such as helping to look after younger children.

“I want to be staff. I would love more responsibilities,” he said.

He said he hopes his winning the award can inspire other children to work for what they want as well.

He said he wants others to know they can have what they want if they work one step at a time. Pollard’s mother Becky said her husband and her as well as the boy’s uncle Herschel Chadwell of California are very proud of his accomplishment.
