A shed that people were living inside burned this morning, according to the Durant Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at 7:50 to 202 S. Fifth Ave. where a shed that was being used as a bedroom caught fire. According to the fire department, a man and woman were inside the shed until they left this morning to shower at another residence, and it caught fire sometime after that. Someone knocked on the door of the home located on the property and told the people the shed was on fire.
The shed, which contained clothes and a space heater, was a total loss, according to the fire department, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
In other fires, firefighters were dispatched at 6:04 a.m. Monday to 460 S. Sawmill Road to put out a burn pile the flared up due to the strong winds. Firefighters put out the fire and returned to the station at 6:19 that morning.
