The Taste Island restaurant was evacuated at lunchtime Tuesday after a small fire started in a wall.

The Durant Fire Department was dispatched at 12:01 p.m. to 2301 W. Main St., and upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the southeast corner of the building.

According to a department report, the fire was thought to be in the attic, but after investigating, firefighters found a small fire in a wall adjacent to the kitchen area of the restaurant and the office for the Budget Inn.

Firefighters cleared away the area and put out the fire as it was beginning to spread into the attic. They remained on scene until 3:06 that afternoon.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and damage to the structure was minor.
