New Altus Athletic Director and Head Football Coach of the Altus Bulldogs, Jeremy Reed, 33, addressed Altus coaches, parents, and students on Monday night at his official reception with a straight forward and honest introduction on his disciplined approach to greatness in athletics, education, and community.

“We’re going to make good players out of your kids, but we’re going to make better people,” Coach Reed said. “Character is very high on my list. We want to teach them how to be a man of character, how to be a great husband, how to be a great father, and that is very much the forefront of what we’re going to do.”

Reed explained that his core values are based on the Bible verse, 2 Timothy 4-7: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race and I have kept the faith,” he read. Reed aims to teach his players to fight adversity, to teach kids “more so than ever to finish things,” with an emphasis on classroom performance, and last to have faith both in God and in the athletic program.

“I am available at anytime to visit with you and I am looking forward to building a relationship with and a trsut with you where we can take Altus athletics to a new level.”

Reed is a 2004 graduate of Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Health/Physical Education. In 2009 he obtained his master’s degree in Sports Administration from East Central University. He started his career in Sand Springs as the offensive coordinator. From there he was the head coach in Coalgate for one season. After completion of that season he led the offense for the Ardmore Tigers for three seasons before stepping away from the game in 2010. He returned to coaching in the 2010-2011 football season as the head coach at Dickson High School, where he has been for the past 3 years. He was recently selected as the South Central Oklahoma FCA Coach of the Year for 2013.
