Durant Schools Superintendent Dr. Jason Simeroth has been hired by the Yukon School District.
Simeroth, who has been DISD superintendent since 2008, said the Yukon Board of Education met Thursday evening and approved a contract hiring him as superintendent effective July 1.
He said it was a tough decision and that he is proud of his six years in Durant, and the positive things that have happened in the district such as construction of the new high school.
“This has just been a fantastic six years and a tremendous learning and growing experience,” Simeroth said. “We wanted to get closer to family, and this has been one of the toughest decisions of my life. It was not easy. It was a brutally tough decision. “This was a God-centered move to benefit my family.”
Simeroth will serve out the rest of his term as DISD superintendent through June.
“Lots of great thing have happened here and I am absolutely honored to be a part of it,” Simeroth said.
