Voters are heading to the polls today to vote in the Bryan County primary elections.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. today and close at 7 p.m.

Bryan County Democrats will make their picks in state and congressional contests, plus a few local races.

Incumbent Bryan County Treasurer Nancy Connor is being challenged by Prudy Sullivan. Since no Republicans are running for that office, the election will be decided in today’s primary.

Bryan County Commissioner for District 1 is an open seat because current commissioner Monty Montgomery did not seek reelection. Democrats Chuck Downs and Kevin Carter are running for that office. The winner will face Republican Ron Boyer in the November general election.

Incumbent Bryan County District 3 Commissioner Jay Perry is being challenged by Roger Hedgecock. Since both are Democrat, that election will also be decided today.

The Democrat will post local election results tonight on its Website, www.durantdemocrat.com.
