Altus Firefighters arrived to a structure fire early this morning after 2:40 a.m. on the 400 Block of W. Sutherland to a vacant house fully engulfed in flames. Altus Fire Chief Jerry Abbott, and the Fire Marshall, were still on the scene after 9 a.m. today conducting their investigation as to the source of the blaze. Abbott stated that there were no utilities running through the house and that it was likely due to suspicious activity.
“The front half of the building was fully involved upon arrival,” Chief Abbott said. “We went straight to a defensive mode on the structure and provided exposure protection on the structure just to the east of it.”
Altus Fire Department responded with nine firefighters to extinguish the blaze.
