Elvis week in Durant ended Saturday evening with a concert by a “King” impersonator complete with leis, sunglasses and snacks all free to the public.
More than 100 Durant locals headed out to Market Square to hear “Elvis” perform his hit songs. The Elvis impersonator sang for approximately 30 minutes before rain ended the concert.
The concert ended the week-long, Elvis-themed awareness campaign in Durant for Alzheimer’s Disease. A cardboard cutout of Elvis traveled Main Street stores last week promoting Main Street shopping and calling attention to the disease.
The concert was to end Elvis Week and collect donations for Alzheimer’s research, which is the most common form of dementia.
Main Street announced that since the concert was cut, short they will be collecting donations until this Friday.
For information on donating to this cause, contact Durant Main Street at (580) 924-1550 or visit their office at 110 North Second Ave. in Durant.
