The Colbert Speech Team will compete in the Oklahoma State Speech Tournament in Norman on the University of Oklahoma Campus April 11 and 12.
In order to qualify for state, a competitor must place first, second, or third in a qualifying tournament during the season. Then that competitor must place first, second, third or fourth in his\her events at regionals to go to state. A competitor may compete in only three events at regionals and state.
“Competitive speech class takes so much hard work and dedication. We memorize, research and practice up to five events at the same time on a daily basis, and then attend tournaments miles away on Saturdays. We are a small group, but when a year is over, we are family because we have all worked, and that work has paid off, and because we do have so much fun,” according to Brittany Zimmerman, senior and two year speech letterman.
Those qualifying for state are as follows: Brittany Zimmerman will compete in humorous duet. Alyssa Cherry will compete in dramatic duet and foreign extemporaneous speaking.
Sammi Richardson will compete in humorous duet, poetry interpretation, and domestic extemporaneous speaking, and Joseph Schnitker will compete in dramatic duet, prose interpretation, and foreign extemporaneous speaking.
The team is coached by Ms. Darlene Davis.
