The Durant Independent School District board met Monday to reorganize for the next year.
Nate Morrison remained in his position on the school board since he ran unopposed.
After the reorganization, the President of the Board is Jim Hodson with Vice-President being Joyce Northcutt.
David Jones has served the citizens of Durant as President of the Board for the last year.He will remain on the board to continue to serve.
Superintendent Duane Merideth said, “David did a great job as President this last year and I know he’ll continue to be a great board member.”
The entire school board and Superintendent Duane Meredith expressed their gratitude for Jones’ service.
He said, “I want to compliment all our board members. They all do such a great job and we are very appreciative of their time and service to our schools.”
Durant has special teachers in every grade and school. Administrators and support staff keep the district running smoothly for the kids, officials say.
Merideth said, “I wish we could gather them all and tell everyone in our district they do a great job and are very appreciated for all they do, not matter what they do.”
Deborah Clements, April Raines and Lisa Reeves have led DHS Choir and were recognized for their service as well as 14 students who were named All-State Choir along with these three leaders.
Merideth said, “Those ladies do a tremendous job every year and work so hard. They follow the example of other teachers who work so diligently and so hard.”
A lot of pride was expressed in the March meeting for the Durant ISD staff district wide.
Contracts were renewed for the 2017-18 school for the Director and Executive Director of Durant Public Schools. The Clerk of the Board and Treasurer also had their contracts renewed for 2017-18.
Certified Staff hired are: Beth Bean, Principal and Mary Morgan as Assistant Principal for Choctaw Nation Posse Summer School. It is a one year temporary position for the summer of 2017.
Support personnel hired are: Jade Adams, Special Education Teacher Assistant at Northwest Heights Elementary. Shannon Wagner, Kindergarten Teacher Assistant as Washington Irving Elementary and Melissa Raines, Child Nutrition Employee at Durant High School.
Spring sports are in full swing with Merideth updating the board on the powerlifting team who have 13 qualified for state competition this Friday.
Soccer and Baseball in Durant are off to a great start this year, according to officials.
The Durant School Board meets the first Monday of every month at DISD Headquarters at 5:30Pm.
