An early morning shooting near the Durant Intermediate School in Durant leaves one Durant police officer with minor injuries. Durant Police and Southeastern Police were involved in chase that ended at the Intermediate School at approximately 2am Monday morning.

It all started when officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the 800 block of north Washington.

The suspect would not stop his vehicle for police as ordered.

Travis Heryla, the suspect, took off, eventually stopping near Washington and Waco, near the DISD building and Intermediate School in Durant.

Heryla then refused to exit the vehicle as directed by police.

When officers attempted to physically remove him from the vehicle, he locked the doors and rolled up the windows of his vehicle.

Officers then broke the drivers window and Officer Wes Crank attempted to remove Heryla by reaching inside.

The suspect then took off again with DPD officer Crank being drug by the suspect’s vehicle.

Heryla’s vehicle passed over a speed bump and it dislodged DPD officer Crank and he fell from the drivers door.

Another officer, Southeastern Police officer Scott Alexander shot his gun into the vehicle which finally caused the suspect to stop.

Alexander thought it was possible that Crank was being run over, but he only had minor injuries.

The shot Alexander fired did not injure anyone but DPD officer Crank was taken to the Durant hospital for treatment of those minor injuries.

The incident is still under investigation with the suspect in jail.
