Piano festival held at Southeastern

The Southeastern Oklahoma State University Piano Festival was held recently on the Durant campus.

The 40th annual event took place in the Fine Arts Building.

Students participated in five divisions: Red, grades K-3; Green, grades 3-5; White, grades 6-7; Blue, grades 8-9; and Silver, grades 10-11.

Results were as follow:

Red Division

Clare Safe of Durant, student of Dr. Robert McFadden, took first place with a performance of Chugga Chugga Choo-Choo/Gutierrez.

Chase Courtright, Denison, Texas (Kimberly Courtright), was second with Dance of the Gnomes/Costley; and Daniel Ro, Sherman, Texas (Lesa Hicks) finished third with The Hunters/Glover.

Green Division

Emily Pervis, Sherman (Hicks) finished first with Fountain in the Rain/Gillock; Jada Bell, Idabel (Dru Edmondson), came in second with Sonatina/Olson; and Will Coker, Durant (McFadden) was third with Sneaky/Costley.

White Division

Zach Zimmerman, Ardmore (Megan Ownbey) took the top spot with The Night Ride/Vandall.

Blue Division

Anna Wang, Ardmore (Ownbey) was the winner with Polichinelle, Op. 3, No. 4/Rachmaninoff; Joseph Reisdorf, Idabel (Edmondson), came in second with Tarentelle/Denne; and third place went to Jadyn McClure, Durant (Dr. Mary Ann Craige) with The Horseman/Kabalevsky.

Silver Division

Jared Ackley, Sherman (Carla Fanning) finished first with Toccata/Khatchaturian; Zimei Chen, Ardmore (Ownbey) took second with Clowns, from the Circus Maximus/Turina; and Will Lacy, Sherman (Hicks) was third with Malaguena/Lucona.
