The Blue River Winery held a fundraiser for the Durant Animal Rescue League Saturday evening.
Local performer Jason Meadows and Morris McCann headlined the event that raised money for the League.
The event, “Hooch 4 Pooch,” was rescheduled from April 29th because of rain.
The property allowed for a sprawling event, listening to music and relaxing.
Owner Hillary Dean and his wife Diane said they started this as a hobby because of their love of fine wines.
The hobby became a business when they opened the doors to their own winery boutique.
The name comes from the view of the Blue River you obtain as you sip their fine wine.
Winemaker Hillary Dean said, “We are pleased to say the concert, tips and 10% of the sale of wine raised about $500 for DARA for medical expenses for the dogs and cats they rescue from the Durant and Bryan County area.”
The winery has a Caddo address and is located east of Durant.
Dean said, “The Durant Animal Rescue Alliance is a non-profit organization We had a lot of good people show up to support the rescue alliance.”
Many said they didn’t know Durant had a winery.
The winery is located at 3565 Sawmill Road in Durant.
Dean said, “We really enjoyed and appreciate Jason Meadows and Morris McCann coming to play for us. What a fantastic performance! We also had a special song performed by Brittany Lopez. The DARA brought three adorable, well-behaved puppies for us to see.”
Anna Marcy of DARA said, “We brought some dogs available for adoption. We told the public what we are doing and what the Durant Animal Rescue Alliance is.
“If someone wants to volunteer, or adopt a dog, our website is, www.durantrescues.com.”
