The next three months are full of action for the Bryan County Democratic Party and Federation of Democratic Women.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Connie Johnson was guest speaker at the July meeting of the Federation, and another candidate for the job, Scott Inman, will speak at the Aug. 15 meeting. The remaining Democratic candidate, Drew Edmondson, is scheduled for October.

Also in July, the Federation presented Bennington Elementary School Principal Scott McCorstin with a $220 check for school supplies to take the place of money lost because of budget cuts by the Oklahoma Legislature.

In the meantime, together the County Party and the Federation are sponsoring a late-summer picnic at Lake Texoma with Marshall County as co-sponsor; other southeastern Oklahoma counties will also participate. The event will be September 15th at Ben’s Campground on Catfish Bay. Ronda DeCaire, chair of the planning committee, has announced that there will be entertainers in addition to swimming and sunbathing. The picnic is a potluck event.

The Bryan County Democratic Party meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. the year round at Roma Italian Restaurant in Durant. The Bryan County Federation of Democratic Women meets the third Tuesday monthly at Roma at 12 noon. All meetings are free and open to the public.

Submitted by the Bryan County Democratic Party.
