The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) notified the City of Durant Tuesday that as of today, they began a reconstruction project on the approach ramps at Highway 69/75 and Washington Avenue.
This project will affect traffic in both directions on Highway 69/75 and on Washington Avenue. As of 8 a.m. today, the outside lanes south and northbound on Highway 69 /75 were closed, as was the northbound exit ramp at Washington Avenue.
At times, traffic on Washington Avenue will be down to one lane with flagmen directing traffic flow during the day, however both lanes will be open during the nighttime and weekend hours.
This project is expected to be completed by the third week of August.
“Motorists should avoid travel on this section of roadway if possible,” said Durant/Bryan County Emergency Management Director James Dalton. “If you do drive on Washington Street, expect delays and lane shifting. Please drive cautiously and watch for construction workers and flagmen. Traffic backups will occur during peak drive times.”
Reduced speed limits are posted and will be enforced for worker safety.
“The City of Durant would like to thank all citizens for their cooperation during this event,” Dalton said.
