Durant firefighters and Bryan County EMS remove a woman from her car after a crash Wednesday afternoon at the West Elm Street and North Second Avenue intersection. Police at the scene said the pickup in the background stopped at the intersection but then proceeded to drive forward and struck the car. According to a fire department report, the woman complained of head and neck pain, so she was taken to the hospital for observation. The man who drove the pickup was not injured.

The Durant Fire Department has put out several grass and rubbish fires recently, according to DFD reports, and they also responded to a crash late Wednesday afternoon.


They were dispatched at 12:35 p.m. July 4 to the 1500 block of North 10th Avenue where there was an outdoor fire. They put out the fire and left the scene about eight minutes later.


At 1:47 a.m. July 5, firefighters responded to a trash fire at Park Ridge Apartments. They put out the fire within minutes of arriving. They were dispatched to another trash fire at 5:40 that morning at Avalon Apartments. That fire also was quickly extinguished.


Firefighters responded at 3:14 p.m. Sunday to the 400 block of Roadrunner Drive where grass, trash and three old vehicles were on fire. They spent almost two hours fighting that fire.


Firefighters were dispatched at 6:15 a.m. Monday to the 2100 block of Laura Drive where there was a fire inside a Polycart. That fire was quickly extinguished.


They put out another grass fire Tuesday on Highway 70. That fire scorched a 40 by 60 foot area.
