The Bryan County Free Fair is scheduled for Sept. 3-6. With the fair being only a month away, it’s time to start getting your canning, quilts, crafts, chickens, and even llamas ready for the county fair. This is a traditional county event that the entire family can participate in. Persons of all ages have the opportunity to enter fair exhibits: 4-H, FFA, Kiddie Corner and open division for adults and youth.


To kick-off the beginning of the fair, the annual “Fairest of the Fair” Pageant will take place on a Saturday evening on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Durant Middle School Auditorium (the old high school building). Contestants must attend a Bryan County High School and must be a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship. To enter all contestants must completed an official pageant application along with a photo. The pageant applications are available at the OSU Extension Office. The deadline to enter is Tuesday, Aug. 26, 4 p.m., at the Bryan County OSU Extension Office.


The 4-H and FFA Tractor Driving Contest will held on Tuesday, Sept. 2, starting at 2 p.m. located in the Expo Building, Fairgrounds.


Entry Day for the fair with the exception of livestock and poultry is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 3 , starting at 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Fair exhibits can be entered at these locations:


· 4-H & Kiddie Corner Exhibits- Small Room, Community Center


· Home Art Department Exhibits – Large Room, Community Center


· Open, 4-H, and FFA Horticulture, Agriculture, Agronomy and 4-H Wildlife Exhibits - Haggard Hall


The judging of all fair exhibits will take place Thursday, Sept. 4, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Community Building and Haggard Hall will be closed during judging. To view all the pretty ribbons you won, these buildings will reopen to the public after 3 p.m. and close at 9 p.m.


In the Home Art Department, Grand Champion and Reserve Grand rosettes will be awarded in Textiles, Quilts, Foods and Crafts divisions. A Best of Show, overall award will be presented to the most outstanding fair exhibit in those divisions.


These special awards will be given in adult and youth division: “The Best Wheat” Bread Making Contest, BALL Fresh Preserving Awards and the Wilton Enterprises decorated cakes. Make sure to check out the guidelines for these specials awards listed in the fairbook.


Entries for poultry and rabbits will be accepted on Wednesday, September 3rd from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Judging of poultry will take place starting at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The poultry barn will be closed during judging.


Entries may be viewed from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. All exhibits will be released on Saturday evening at 9 p.m.

· Llama Show, 9: a.m.., Outdoor Arena


· Cookie Contest, 11 a.m. Community Building, entries due at 10:30


· Open Horse Show, 9 a.m. Outdoor Arena


· Salsa Contest, 2 pm.., Community Building, entries due at 1:30


· Carnival Opens, 6 p.m.
