The oldest resident at Colbert’s Southern Pointe Living Facility turned 102 Wednesday. Willie Bea Staton celebrated her birthday with family and friends at the facility.
Staton was born on August 6, 1912 and has lived in the Texas and Oklahoma area her whole life. Staton’s son Corkey and granddaughter joined her for the big day as well as her nephew and her friends.
Friends and family had fun sharing stories about Staton through the years. Corkey told of his mother’s travel from Texas to Oklahoma when she was six years old.
He said the trip from Commerce, Texas, to Albany took three days as she walked behind a wagon with her brothers.
He explained the wagon was filled with the family’s furniture. He said his mother was born in Calera but the family had moved to Texas briefly before returning to Oklahoma.
He also told how his mother lived on her own until just months ago when she went to live at Southern Pointe at the age of 101.
It was at the living facility that a party was held in her honor, celebrating her life.
