The Durant Kiwanis Club learned about traveling between Oklahoma and Texas at the Aug. 27 meeting as they heard from Oklahoma Turnpike Authority Executive Director Tim Stewart.
Stewart explained the details of a new project that eases the payment for Oklahoma and Texas toll roads.
He said that now an Oklahoma PikePass can be used to pay for tolls in North Texas as well as Oklahoma. Similarly, a Texas toll pass can now be used in Oklahoma.
This means those who travel between the two states no longer have to stop for tolls on the other state but can be charged just like they were in their home state.
Stewart also explained why tolls are paid and how they help the roadways. According to Stewart, in Oklahoma, tolls are paid to fund the roads that have tolls.
This provides safe and new roadways for the occasional 35-cent toll. He said that the tolls are meant to end when all of the toll roads are paid off.
