COLEMAN — The Calera Bulldogs claimed two wins Thursday at the Coleman baseball tournament.
They wrapped up Stringtown 13-3 and Caney 9-1. The Dawgs will face off with Rattan today at 6 p.m., which could be a good battle.
Calera 13, Stringtown 3
It was a big win and could’ve been bigger, considering Calera left seven on base in the game. Stringtown stranded only two.
The Bulldogs held a 4-0 lead after one. They added three in the second, four in the third and two in the fourth. All the Tigers’ runs came in the top of the second.
Offensively for Calera, Rylee Barton went 4-for-4 with a trio of singles, a double and four RBIs. Michael Trammel pushed three runs across the plate in going 1-for-3 with a single. Josh Loper hit 3-for-4 with two singles, a double and two RBIs. Braden Langley went 2-for-1 with a single and RBI. Jesse Collett was credited with a sacrifice fly and two runs batted in. Chase Hamilton contributed an RBI. Dakota Jackson and Cooper Hamilton each had a one-bagger.
Derek Cheek was hit twice by a pitch, Shawn Harper once.
James Vazguez threw all four innings for Calera. He struck out four, walked none and allowed two hits.
Calera 9, Caney 1
The Bulldogs claimed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first that held until lighting up the scoreboard with a half-dozen in the fifth. They added two more in the top of the seventh before the Cougars avoided the blank in the bottom of the final frame.
Caney stranded eight runners in the game. Calera left on six.
Shawn Harper went 3-for-4 with a pair of singles, a double and three RBIs. Michael Trammel was 2-for-4 with a single, double and a run batted in. Braden Langley also had an RBI in going 1-for4 with a single.
Josh Loper was 2-for-4 with a pair of one-baggers. Cooper Hamilton and Dakota Jackson finished with a single apiece.
Rylee Barton was hit by a pitch in each of his four plate appearances. (He might be en route to a world record on this stat.) He also finished with an RBI and four stolen bases.
Derrek Cheek contributed a sac bunt.
Jesse Collett pitched a complete game for the win. He struck out seven batters, hit three, walked one and allowed five hits.
For Caney, Calvin McBride went 2-for-4 with a double, single and RBI. Cameron Carpenter hit a double. Tyler Jackson and Cody Carpenter connected for a single each.
Cameron Carpenter got the start on the mound for the Cougars. In four innings, he struck out five, walked one, had three HBPs and allowed five hits.
McBride came on to close. He struck out two, walked one, had one HBP and allowed five hits.
