ALTON — Someone made off with the entire top of an apartment building’s commercial washing machine that may have contained $200 in quarters inside its coin receptacle.

Maintenance manager of Apartments for You, formerly Manor Court Apartments at 824 Washington Ave., called police about the burglary on April 12. The culprit likely entered the basement laundry room via a door on the south side of the building that is kept unlocked for tenants’ use, an Alton police report says.

The report says the drum of the damaged machine was left exposed and it would take more than $500 to replace the top. The manager told police the machine had been intact as of 8 p.m. April 11.

ALTON — A burglar got inside a man’s unlocked Chevrolet pickup truck that was parked in his driveway, taking his employer-owned cell phone and other items.

The victim, of the first block of Holly Hill Drive, discovered the burglary on April 16.

An Alton police report describe the cell phone as a black, AT&T Android brand inside a black OtterBox case. The burglar also took a key ring with 20-30 keys and a light gray gym bag containing paperwork and over-the-counter medication.
