Police raid suspected meth house in East Alton

EAST ALTON — Police took a man and woman into custody Tuesday after finding chemicals commonly used in the production of methamphetamine at an East Alton home.


Fire trucks blocked off streets near the home in the 600 block of Washington Avenue during the initial investigation. Police received a tip about possible illegal activities there.


“Different type of fuels and chemicals that would lead us to believe that is being done; along with a strong odor of chemicals,” East Alton Police Maj. Brian Archer said. 612 Washington Ave.


Police also found precursors for the production of methamphetamine.


Two young children at the home were taken into custody by a grandmother.


The woman remains in custody for suspected methamphetamine production. Authorities had not released her name as of Tuesday evening pending formal charges from the states attorney’s office. The man was released and not charged.


Archer said the home appeared to be a “meth house”.


An Illinois State Police Methamphetamine Response Team inspected the home for about two hours.
