Government shutdown affects Lake Texoma

Due to the partial government shutdown that began Tuesday, all 10 Corps of Engineers campgrounds at Lake Texoma are temporarily closed.
B.J. Parkey with the Corps of Engineers said all campers were notified that they must vacate the campgrounds by 8 p.m. today.
“This time of year we have a lot of campers,” said Parkey.
He said several hundred people had to be notified about the shutdown.
Campers will be reimbursed for time they had paid for and not used.
“Most were understanding. All were disappointed,” said Parkey.
Parkey said this shutdown should not affect marinas and concessions that are leased to outside vendors.
According to a press release from the Corps of Engineers, “corps parks leased to partner agencies and concessionaires will remain open, but cannot be supported by the Corps while the shutdown is in place.”
Parkey said the shutdown will affect at least 26 local Corps of Engineers employees who are being furloughed due to the shutdown.
He said this will also affect any requests to the Corps of Engineers and some bill payments from them as well.
The press release also stated, “a limited number of Corps projects and operations that are exempt for national security and safety that will continue to operate, including navigation, hydropower and operation of flood gates.”
