The Chorvettes Stageworks Company is the longest standing group organization at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The Chorvettes are a musical theatre troupe that has many new things planned for this year.
“It has long been a tradition at Southeastern for Chorvettes to be made up of students with majors across the university,” Professor Dell McLain said, “We continue that tradition with pride. We have had business and civic leaders, politicians and pastors, teachers and technicians who were all proudly Chorvettes when they attended Southeastern.”
The Chorvettes Stageworks Company performs at different events around campus, such as Tailgate Alley and SE Live! This year, the Chorvettes have been performing songs by the 1970s Swedish pop group ABBA, such as “Mamma Mia,” “Does you Mother know,” “Dancing Queen,” and “Can’t Hurry Love.”
The Chorvettes are also putting together new shows for the audience’s viewing pleasure. “Holiday Follies” and “Red River Review” are new shows in repertory. “Holiday Follies” is a Christmas show for all ages. This show is a mixture of all your favorite music that begins as the leaves begin to change. With “Baby it’s Cold Outside” to “Grandma got Ran Over by a Reindeer,” this show has a variety of songs that you’ll remember from holiday’s past. “Holliday Follies” will be held in the Visual and Performing Arts Center on December 5. “Red River Review” is a completely new series of shows in repertory. “The Red River Review” showcases two shows in one. First is “Magnolia Magic Country Showcase;” is a “weepin’ and wailin’ boot scootin’ good time!” says McLain. “Magnolia Magic Country Showcase” will be held in the Visual and Performing Arts Center May 14 and 16, 2014. Then comes “Red White and Swing,” a show filled with great American standards; with covers of songs from the likes of Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, and many more. “Red White and Swing” will be held May 15 and 17 in the Visual and Performing Arts Center.
