The Durant ISD held its regular monthly meeting Monday, November 4 approving revisions to one school policy.
The school tobacco use policy was revised to add enforcement capabilities and to include policies over “e-cigarettes” and “vape” devices.
The policy also states now that the school will not receive any funds from tobacco companies. This was previously not written into policy however Superintendent Dr. Jason Simeroth said the school has never accepted funds from such companies.
The board also approved the purchase of two activity buses and one pre-owned route bus. This purchase is in accordance with the recently approved bond for the school district.
The purchase is in the amount of $4,589.56 which is the lowest bid received by the board. The board extended gratitude toward all of the banks who bid for the purchase and helped keep the price low.
Simeroth took time to pay respects to Durant teacher Lori Bourne who passed away October 29 at age 55.
Simeroth referred to Bourne as a “treasure” and said that the teacher will be missed. He said last week several parents and students had shared stories of the effects Bourne has had in their lives.
Before adjourning, the board also recognized the recent accomplishments of the Durant Cross Country Team and of both the seventh and eighth grade football teams.
