The Three Valley Museum has released the speakers and topics for this year’s Journey Stories. Journey Stories is a series of story telling sessions held every year at the museum to talk about Durant’s history.


Museum curator Nancy Farris said this is a very popular event for the museum every year. It is held every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. in the month of January.


The stories usually last approximately an hour, according to Farris. This year’s stories will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 7. On Jan.7, Ken Rainbolt will speak about the Red River Wars and the fight over boundaries.


On Thursday, Jan. 9, Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Ronnie Hampton will speak about the happenings in October 2012 involving a local girl firing shots at a home intruder.


Betty Clay will be speaking about the Civil War on Tuesday, Jan. 14. John Teele will be returning to the Journey stories to tell tales of growing up in Bryan County on Thursday, Jan. 16.


Dr. David Norris will be speaking on Jan. 21 about the city’s founder Dixon Durant and his family. On Thursday, Jan. 23, Jean LaNore will speak about the building of the Denison Dam.


Tuesday, Jan. 30, will be an evening of Cowboy Poetry and Song celebrating the heritage of western Oklahoma. The Jan. 23 speaker is still to be announced.
