This year’s crop of Super Bowl commercials will include a small bit of Roxana flavor as well.
Gigi Friedman, a Los Angeles-area actress and daughter of Roxana High School graduate Laura Bassett, will star in a Hyundai Genesis commercial that is set to air during Sunday’s Super Bowl. The commercial, entitled “Dad’s Sixth Sense,” features Friedman, 19, as the fleeting object of affection for a boy learning to drive. She said the audition process was unique.
“I walked in in December to an audition, and they literally go, ‘We’re just going to have you walk and look up at the camera,’ which is very, very easy for an audition,” Friedman said. “I guess I walked right, because then they booked me.”
Friedman said she didn’t know the commercial would air during the Super Bowl, the premier event for advertisers, until she was on the set of the shoot. This year, the average cost of a 30-second advertisement is around $4 million.
Along with being the daughter of a Roxana High graduate, Friedman is the niece of Rene Bassett Butler and Tracy Butler of Belthato and granddaughter of Merle and Norine Bassett of Rosewood Heights. She has been acting for around three years, with her resume including a Jimmy Johns commercial and an episode of the drama Fringe on FOX in 2011.
As far as what lies next, Friedman said the options are limitless.
“In an ideal world, I would love to be on a Chuck Lorre show later on (the producer of shows like Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory), or be in some kind of film,” Friedman said. “There’s a lot of room to grow here.”
