Illinois State Police District 11 Tuesday reported a serious accident occurred at the I-255 Northbound ramp to Collinsville Rd. Sunday morning that resulted in a passenger being ejected through a windshield.

According to the release, Kristen N. Masiero, 20, of Wood River was driving a 2003 Ford SE on I-255 at Milepost 23.6 when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck an end-guardrail cushion. Masiero, according the report, lost control of the vehicle and continued across the Collinsville Rd. exit ramp and struck another guardrail on the right side of the roadway, coming to rest.

The front seat passenger — who the ISP did not name — was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle through the front windshield. She was transported by arch to a St. Louis area Hospital for serious injuries. This crash remains under investigation by the ISP.

Maserio was transported to a local area Hospital for minor injuries. She was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.

Charges of Improper Lane Usage resulted from the accident.
