Jerry Hull has been inducted into the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association 2013 Hall of Fame.


Hull was an honor graduate at Durant High School where he graduated in 1957. He was a member of the All State Band for 5 years and was first chair his last two years. His band director his senior year was Kenneth Peters. His other band directors at DHS were Roy Weger and Mel Nixon. His parents are the late Gene and Eber Hull of Durant.


His siblings, Jeannine Hull Belch, Greg Hull, and Twana Hull Henneke were also products of the Durant High School band system and are also music teachers in Texas.


He was an honor graduate at the University of Houston. He was first chair for 5 years. He was outstanding band member his senior year. He was also a graduate assistant band director at the University of Houston. His director was James T. Matthews.


He played with the Houston Symphony for three and a half years. His favorite conductor was Sir John Barbirolli. Hull taught in Oklahoma for sixteen years. Teaching three years at Broken Bow High School and then thirteen years at McAlester High School. Every year his bands received a Division I rating and won many awards.


His groups performed several times at Oklahoma Music Educators Association convention. Many of his students were selected for All - State. He has many former students playing professionally and teaching instrumental music. Hull has judged and directed honor groups in 5 states.


In 2005 at Texas Music Educators Association convention, Hull received the first Distinguished Alumnus Award in Music Education from the Moores School of Music, the University of Houston.


In 2009, Hull served as a clinician for the Southeastern Band Directors Association All-District High School Symphonic Band. Jerry is presently teaching private lessons at Haltom High School (Greg Hull and Donnie Hull directors), North Oaks Middle School (Tony Smith director), Haltom Middle School (David Burks director), Richland Middle School (Jeannine Belch and Russel Porter, directors) and home studio.


Hull wishes to thank the OBA Hall of Fame committee that selected him for this award. He feels extremely honored.
