BLUE – Rock Creek, Tushka and Colbert all secured opening-day victories Thursday at the Lady Mustangs’ 16-team fast-pitch softball tournament.
The hosts, coached by Wade Johnson, blasted a struggling Atoka team 16-2 in four innings. Pitcher Brianna Iams got the win and Rock Creek moved to 2-0 following an early week win over Caddo.
The Lady Mustangs benefitted from the pitching woes of the Lady Wampus Cats, who issued 10 walks. Rock Creek scored five runs in the first and tacked on another seven in the second before Atoka scored a pair.
Makayla Stinson had a single and scored twice; Ashlyn Robinson had two hits for two RBIs and scored one run; Michelle Wheeler batted a triple and two singles and scored twice; Macy Eiler had two RBIs; Iams had one RBI; Kaitlyn Blackburn had a base hit and scored once; Karrie Blackburn had a two-RBI double in the first.
Courtesy runner Rilee Angello scored three runs and Alyssa Robinson tacked on a pinch-hit single.
Colbert blanked Fort Towson 10-0 thanks to strong pitching from Breawna McCraw and a home run for Haylie McGowan.
Coach Damon Lewis said it was a slow start for the Lady Leopards (2-0) but eventually “everyone pitched in” for the victory.
McCraw and Kylie Stubbs each drove in two runs; Arie Young had two hits; Hannah Guajardo collected a double and Makayla Pierce also had a base hit.
In other tournament action, Tushka upset Idabel 3-2 and scored all three on a two-out rally in the final inning with the Lady Warriors ahead 2-0; Rattan 6 Tishomingo 4; Hugo 5 Ringling 4.
