by By Zach Maxwell Sports Reporter
ACHILLE - The Tushka Tigers outlasted Achille 11-2 on Tuesday as the heart of the Tiger lineup poured on the deuces.
Wyatt daniel was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs; Connor Brinkley collected two RBIs; Weston Manar was 2-2 with a double and two RBIs; and Tyler Frank also went 2-2 on his way to (any guesses?) two RBIs.
Ryan Broughton went five innings in the win for Tushka, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out seven Eagles. Frank pitched the sixth and final inning in relief.
Achille starter Zach Nichols went only two innings against the popping Tushka bats; Jaron Phelps pitched the final four. Lane Manry scored both runs for Achille (5-7) while Scott Robinson was 1-1 (and was hit by a pitch) and Jason Todd went 1-2 (also hit by a pitch).
The Tigers improve to 13-5 ahead of a Thursday appearance in the Silo Invitational Tournament.
“We just want to go out there and play smart and hard,” said Tushka Coach Eddie Jeffcoat. “It’s right here a couple weeks before the playoffs and the tournament gives you an idea of where you are. It’s always a good tournament.”
Tushka has drawn Stonewall in a 7 p.m. Thursday contest in Silo; the Eagles will be in the Calera Tournament with a noon Thursday game against Boswell.
