Rebels and Leopards advance in Silo Invitational

SILO -The Silo Baseball Invitational kicked off Thursday afternoon with some of the top teams in highschool baseball vying to take the crown.
The Silo Rebels laid waste of Tupelo 11-0 and Colbert Leopards squeaked by Caney 6-5. Red Oak finished off Soper 11-0 and Tushka beat Stonewall 7-6.
Today’s match-ups feature a Bryan County bash between Silo and Colbert at 5:00 p.m. Red Oak is pitted against Tushka in the 7:00 p.m. game. In the loser brackets, Soper vs Stonewall and Caney vs Tupelo.
Silo vs Tupelo:
The Rebels run-ruled Tupelo behind pitcher Ethan Hollowell and big bats from the offense.
Silo had control early on, in the first inning the Rebels posted 6 runs. Hearon drove in 2 RBI’s, Long hit a sac-fly RBI, Clark drove in 2 runs and Bolin hit a 2 run home run.
The defense of Silo keep the base pads clean of Tupelo baserunners and as the Silo scoring machine cranked out five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to close out the game.
Rebel Lucas Long hit a bases loaded RBI single, Tanner Clark smashed 2 RBI single and Andrew Bolin went yard for a 3 run home run to give the Rebels a 11-0 victory.
Colbert vs Caney:
It was a defensive struggle until the top of the fourth inning when Caney broke the silence and took a 2-0 lead. Colbert got a run in the bottom of the inning, but Caney added 3 runs in the top of the fifth inning and led 5-1. Then Colbert put on their rally caps for the comeback win.
Colbert’s Dillion Jones got the ball rolling when he hit a infield ground ball that ended in a throwing error and two Leopards crossed home plate.
Then Zach Lovelace hit a screamer for an RBI and Chris “Bubba” Roberts smashed a 2 run RBI to give Colbert a 6-5 lead and the win.
