SHAWNEE - Colbert’s season came to and end Friday in the Class 2A state semifinals in an 11-3 loss to eventual champion Dale.
Coach Damon Lewis reports the Lady Leopards took an early 1-0 lead, which jumped to 3-0 on a two-run homer for Haylie McGowan.
But the Lady Pirates tied the game in the fifth inning before a three-run home run started a 10-run finish for Dale.
“Nobody expected this, expected us to be where we are,” Lewis said. “This has been a great group of girls to be around. This is a big accomplishment for them, they really stepped up.”
Dale defeated Savanna 3-2 on Saturday for the 2A fast-pitch state title.
