EDMOND, Okla. – Southeastern wrapped up five-straight road contests against the MIAA with a 3-0 loss to former in-state rival Central Oklahoma on Tuesday evening in Edmond, Okla.
The loss is the third in a row and drops the Savage Storm to 8-11 on the season as they return home to pick up Great American Conference play with a 2 p.m. matchup on Oct. 18 against Southern Arkansas followed by a 2 p.m. meeting with Arkansas-Monticello on Oct. 19.
The SE offense never really found its stride as the Storm hit .152 as a team and was led by Ariel Sanders who had 11 kills and was the only player to reach double-digit kills.
For just the second time this season Emily Gentle finished in single digit kills with a season-low eight, while Julia Benford added six and Courtney Miller five.
Madelynne Cera dished out 24 assists and added three kills and eight digs in the effort.
Miller led the defense with 11 digs, while Cera had eight and the duo accounted for 19 of the team’s 32 total digs.
Sanders also had a pair of blocks as SE had three blocks to UCO’s zero.
The Bronchos by contrast had a near equal number of kills, but hit .333 on the night, while on defense they outdug the Storm 52-to-32.
SE dropped the opener 25-19 in a set that saw 10 ties and four lead changes, but couldn’t bounce back falling 25-14 in set two. The Storm tied the set twice in the third set and there were two more lead changes, but SE could not extend the match, falling 25-19 in the final set.
