Lady Lions drop opener to Atoka Lady Cats

ATOKA - The young Durant Lady Lions struggled against the Atoka Lady Cats on Tuesday night as they dropped the season opener 54-31.
The Lady Lions was led by Alexa Richards and Rheagan Jones both with 8 points. Ciera Taylor had 6 points and Makayla Patton pitched in 4 points.
“On the positive side of it, I never felt that anyone on the floor quit or gave up. That’s the positive thing,” said head coach Casey Strahan. “We started out great with a 9-0 lead. Our shots were falling and we moved ball around. Then they made made adjustments on defense. Then I felt like we rushed and didn’t let things come to us.”
The Lady Lions came out hot at the start of the game as they went up 9-0. But the Lady Cats came back with a 13-2 run and grabbed a 13-11 first period lead.
Lady Lions shooting went cold in the second period as Summer Simeroth scored the only two points of the period for Durant. Atoka took full advantage of sloppy passing and cold shooting by the Lady Lions and went up 30-13 at halftime.
Lady Cats held on to its led in the third period as they outscored Durant 10-7 in the slow scoring period and led 40-20.
Durant hit three 3-pointers in the fourth period, but the Lady Cats kept pace and beat the Durant 54-31.
“It’s wasn’t due to a lack of effort. It showed and it meant a lot to me, knowing that this team won’t give up,” said Strahan.
