Rock Creek girls win consolation; three county teams reach finals

BOKCHITO - Rock Creek’s girls took the consolation trophy in the Rock Creek Invitational Tournament on Saturday by winning two of their three tournament games.
Caddo Lady Bruins reached the tournament championship, while Calera appeared in the third place game on Saturday.
On the boys side, the Mustangs and Calera were set to square off for the tournament championship while Caddo took on Eagletown in the third place game. Results from all these finals were after Durant Daily Democrat deadlines for the Sunday paper and will appear in Tuesday’s editions.
After a 48-42 loss to Soper on Thursday, the Lady Mustangs bounced back with a 58-49 win over Stringtown on Friday. Fort Towson bounced Coleman 47-21 on Friday behind 16 points fro Brittani Blankenship and 15 from Allison Rankin.
In the Saturday showdown between the Lady Mustangs and Lady Tigers, Rock Creek built and early lead but Fort Towson got within three before Rock Creek shooters built a 28-20 halftime lead.
A 13-6 Lady Mustang run in the third was capped by freshman Michaela Stinson’s put-back at the buzzer. Rock Creek led 41-26 and went on to take a 55-30 win for the trophy.
Kaci Haislip led Rock Creek with 15, followed by Stinson’s 14 and 12 for Harlie Heflin. Josie Harbin and Macy Eiler scored six each for Rock Creek and Beth Burns added a pair.
On Friday, Caddo defeated Soper 59-19 as freshman Allie Adair scored 14 of her game-high 18 points in the first half. Tobi Miller added 15 for the Lady Bruins, and Julie Layton went 6-for-7 from free throw land on her way to 14 points.
Calera dropped a 52-47 decision at the hands of Eagletown in the semifinals despite 18 points from Raylee Rogers and 10 for Taylor Pickett.
In the boys games, Rock Creek defeated Soper on Thursday and Eagletown on Friday by a score of 50-37. Bronson Burns went lights-out for the Mustangs with 27 points, while Garrett Mitchell added eight, Ethan Mitchell had five and Noe Alaniz had four.
Calera out-shot Caddo 76-60 in the highest scoring game of the tournament on Friday. Bradley McKnight hit three from downtown and was 7-of-8 from the stripe on his way to 20 points.
Johnathan Diamond and Dakota Adams each scored 13 for the Bulldogs on Friday the 13th, followed by Braxton Barton’s 11, 10 points from Connor Hamilton, seven for Tanner Davis and two from Chuck Baker.
Patrick Joines led the Bruins with 16, Rosendo Chavez added 11 and three players (Jacob Ross, Tanner Grace and Daniel Stone) scored 10. Aaron Purkins had five.
In other boys games Friday at Rock Creek Invitational, Stringtown defeated Coleman 49-40 on Bailey King’s 20 points, and Fort Towson defeated Soper 45-34 in the all-Choctaw County game as Kyon Freeman and Shermar Freeman combined for 26 points for the Tigers.
